Ans.- I know nothing about any claim to said
negroes by any other person than the complainant,
of my own knowledge.

VI. 6. To the sixth Interrogatory, he says:-
Ans.- I think that the hire of said negroes for the
two years named in said Interrogatory was worth
about $865 for each of those years. -- It is usual in
Pickens County to hire out slaves about the first
of January. The term of hired slaves usually ends
about the last of December. The reason of this
custom is, that this is the close of the year, and the
labor of one year is closed, and preparation for a
new crop is about to be commenced.

VII. 7. To the seventh Interrogatory he says:-
Ans.- I know nothing of the making of the two notes
mentioned in said Interrogatory, nor of the con-
sideration for which they were given.

VIII. 8. To the Eighth Interrogatory, he says. -
Ans.- I know nothing about more about the matters in
controversy in this case Willie Taylor
