4. - To the fourth Int.g he says
Ans- I never know of any other person having
possession of said slaves except complainant, and
so far as I know, the most of them have been in
his possession for eight or ten years past. I know
nothing more of the matters inquired of in this inter-
rogatory.

V. 5 To the fifth Int.g he says
Ans. I do not.

VI. 6. To the sixth Int'g he says-
Ans - I am not prepared to make a satis-
factory answer this this interrogatory, in regard to
the hire of said negroes. The usual time of hir-
ing out negroes in Pickens County is the first
of January. The usual time of the term of hir-
ing to end, is about the end of the year. The
term of hired slaves ends at said period, be-
cause their time is out.

VII. 7. To the seventh Intg he says-
Ans.- I know nothing of said notes, nor of
the consideration for which they were given.

VIII. 8. To the eighth Intg. he says
Ans- I do not know any thing further, mat-
