I take pleasure in introducing to you my Friend Lieut J. H. Speed of the 20th Ala Regmt. He is on a mission in reference to the Salt supply and desires to see you in Regard to the same. Any assistance you can render him will be thankfully remembered, and any promise he may make may be implicitly relied on.

This is hot weather - hope the Yankees at Berkely will get a foretaste of the heat that is awaiting them in another Country.
