Ashville St Clair county Ala Febry 4th 1865

To the Hon P. H. Britton Secty of State

We the undersigned Edward Goode Clerk of the Circuit Court of Said County Richard Alford Sheriff of Said County, and Allen W. Nickson a free holder of Said County [Summond?] by Said Sheriff to act in the place of Hon Alfred Turner Judge of Probate of Said County who is absent hereby State that on this Saturday the 4th day of February 1865 at the hour of 12 oclock noon of Said day we according to law did make a correct estimate from the returns of the votes from the Several precints in Said County of the whole number of votes given therein at a Special election held in Said County on Monday the 30th day of January 1865 for a Representive in Congress from the 3rd Congressional District to fill the vacancy in Said office accassioned by the expulsion of W. R. W. Cobb and the person to whom said votes were given and that at Said election the whole number of votes cast in said election in Said county was 331 according to the returns from the election precincts of which [Burrell?] T. Pope received 240 votes for Said office of representation in Congress and Thos B Cooper received ninty one votes for Said office of representive in congress. given under our hand this 4th day of Febry 1865
