Dear Brother

Your letter bearing date
the 30th day of the last and mailed the
first day of the present month was
received on Friday morning, and as
to night Sunday, will afford the earliest
opportunity of sending you an answer
since the reception of yours I have deferred
writing until this time. And in as much
as it is now Sunday I shall defer until
my next (which will be forwarded next week
some time) enclosing the money you asked
for yourself and John. You were partly
correct in your detection of the authorship
of the letter you received from the son of
Brother John. The letter was written by
me but signed and directed by him -
or rather by me with his hand - for he took
the pen and I took his hand and did
the writing. I wrote the letter to satisfy his
continuing pleading me to write a letter for
him. And when he saw it all done and
folded and heard it read he seemed much
pleased, and told Bob when he started with
my letter to the post office "Then mail mine too"

Aunt Harlow's health is about as when I wrote to you last
Sunday - I perceive little or no change - James has not
told her
that Benson
has left
Braxtons
She often
speaks of
the time
when the
"boys" (meaning
Dan and
John) will
be at home
and how
long it will
be &c
