I am certain that at present the pick is between him & Cobb & he will defeat Cobb in my opinion as Forney I know is in for Walker. So is Sickels & other Northern friends of Cobb I believe from good evidence.

Pierce is begging as I write you of all “les amis des noirs” wor king to buy his freedom, & since you have left Garland has set up to be sold, I shall sell him to negro traders before I leave, + I think you ought to take Pierce home to give him a good licking & put him in the fields. He is young enough to mend. Garland is incurable-- All my family by well & send their best love

My truly your friend

R Toombs

PS

My best regard to Judge Thomas.
