My Dear Sir:
Yours of the 21 ult, came only
to hand. I have as yet made no use of your
correction of the report of your speech &c, which
you sent. When it came to hand, they were trying
to make up a fusion in New York, and I
thought it advisable to let the matter alone. The
fusion is not yet perfected though I hope
it will be [?] Brady has shown himself
to be after [? ?] nothing else. I am still in hope
he will be [? ?] to the fusion movement.
meantime I [?] getting up more evidence
about his sympathy with old Brown. The Tribune
in a late editorial stated that Brady made a
speech last winter, in which "he boasted in a
meeting at Tammany Hall" - "that Democrats
alone, ventured to evince Sympathy for old John,
and called for three cheers for him which
were given with a will". I guess this is what
Anderson referred to. I shall know more about
it soon I hope. There may be a good point in it,
and there may not.
