Hon A.H. Stephens
Dear Sir
By request of
Pearce Stephens a Freedman formerly owned by
you as a slave I write to inform you that he
was committed to this place to day. To
answer to a charge of Murder. The Grand
Jury for the present week having found a true
Bill against him and one Jim Williams a
Freedman for the Murder of Mr. Carmichael
on the 24 day December last. I presume sir
that you are aware of the circumstances of
his Murder. Pearce requests me to appeall
to you for your Legal assistance and that
he hopes that you will favor him with your sympathy.
If you are desposed to comply with his
request and you need any information in
regard to the case I will give all that I
can.
