Listed as "10 year old mulatto" in U.S. 1850 census, living within Taliaferro County household of Archibald Rhodes. Status as free person of color established on basis of Warren County lineage of mother Rhoda and her mother. An unusually large population of free persons of color worked for wages in Warren and surrounding counties and the Moss family was one of the largest.
