William T. Sherman

OverviewVersions

Description

William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891) was a Union general during the Civil War, playing a crucial role in the victory over the Confederate States and becoming one of the most famous military leaders in U.S. history. His leadership during Sherman’s March to the Sea from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia, then north into the Carolinas, helped end the war. The devastation wrought by Sherman’s March remains controversial, with Sherman still loathed by many Southerners today.
