Description

Ambrose Wright was a leading political figure in the mid-nineteenth century who distinguished himself as a Confederate general and as editor of the Augusta Chronicle during Reconstruction.

He ran for the state legislature as a Democrat in 1851 but was defeated by a narrow margin. In the mid-1850s he was a member of the American party the “Know-Nothings.”
