My Dear Sir,
My reason for offering you “Pearce” back is that he has taken it to heart so much for giving you cause to sell him, that he has excited my sympathies for him; it is not that I want this money, nor that the boy does not suit, for he is the best boy I ever saw, & others look upon him here now in the same light. And since I wrote to you last, I find I can get almost any price for him, if he were to consent to go to anybody else beside yourself -- under the circumstances I do not feel like going to the expense & trouble to learn him the duties in the mechanical part of my office, while his heart and soul
