My Dear Sir I arrived here about very ill health which has been the one for a long time.

This place although the spirit of [page torn] as elsewhere lies dormant is past my [page torn] in bona fide busines transactions and [page torn] named by few the most agreeable resident [page torn] Texas the offensive heat being moderated [page torn] the sea breeze, besides all the good things [page torn] be had in such abundance for a very [page torn] little good many, this together with the total [page torn] absence of rowdyism & mob law forms a [page torn] contrast with old Nacogdoches, no getting [page torn] & whooping about the streets -- Dont [page torn] so cheap ($ 18 3/4 c o bottle) obviates the necessity [page torn] resort to ardent spirits were it not [page torn] health requires a greater change [page torn] spirits make myself satisfied here [page torn] a long sea voyage to Europe or lain [page torn] the summoner and shall start further [page torn] Mobile, where you will please address [page torn] my letters that may come to Nacogdoches [page torn]
