Parents. Mr & Mrs J.A. Cunningham of Balclutha.

Leonard Cunningham was born on September 30th
1925. He was educated at the High school where he played football
and cricket. On leaving school he joined the New Zealand Railways,
and whilst working as a porter he joined the correspondence section
of the Air Training Corps. He was enlisted on
August 13th 1943 at Delta and began his aircrew training at the
Initial Training Wing, Levin in April 1944. He was posted to the Elementary
Flying Training School, Taieri in May. He proved a good pupil and
made excellent progress. In November L.A.C. Cunningham was posted
to the Service Flying Training School, Wigram.
L.A.C Cunningham died on November 16th 1944 as the
result of injuries sustained when the Harvard aircraft in which he
was pupil pilot crashed at Springbank.
