405030: FLYING OFFICER ALLEN ARMISTICE FRASER.

Allen Fraser was born at Christchurch on the 11th November, 1918 and received his secondary education at the Christchurch Boys' High School where he obtained the School Certificate and also passed the University Entrance examination. He furthered his studies by night classes at the Christchurch Technical College where he studied accountancy. The sports in which he was actively interested included football, tennis and table tennis and was a member of the First XV at School. His civilian occupation was that of a Clerk in the employ of Messrs. Simms, Cooper and Co (NZ) Ltd of Christchurch. In August, 1937 he made application for entry into the R.N.Z.A.F. but owing to the limited number of vacancies, this application was unsuccessful. On the 14th December, 1937 he applied for a Short Service Commission in the R.A.F. but owing to Medical reasons this application was withdrawn. He applied for war service in the R.N.Z.A.F. on the 27th March, 1940.

Flying Officer Fraser was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin on the 22nd December 1940 and on the 8th February 1941 he was posted to No. 2 Elementary Flying Training School, New Plymouth to commence his flying training. He proceeded on the 22nd March, to No. 3 Flying Training School, Ohakea where on the 5th May, he was awarded the Flying Badge and on the 14th of the following month he was commissioned in the rank of Pilot Officer, and he was further promoted to Flying Officer, one year later. Meanwhile, late in June, 1942 he had embarked for the United Kingdom.

Flying Officer Fraser arrived at No. 3 Personnel Reception Centre, Bournemouth on the 2nd September and on the 16th of the same month he proceeded to No. 11 Operational Training Unit, Bassingbourne, Hertfordshire, where he crewed up and completed his training on Wellington bomber aircraft and on the 1st December, he
