422303 Leading Aircraftsman Arthur Dennison MARSHALL.
Parents: Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Marshall of STEWART ISLAND.

Arthur Marshall was born at Dunedin on the 1st August, 1912. He received his secondary education at the Otago Boy's High School passing the matriculation examination. From 1930 to 1935 he was employed in fishing at the Bluff, but then commenced study at Otago University for an Arts Degree. He obtained the teachers "C" Certificate at the Dunedin Training College in 1939 and was employed as a school teacher, when applying for enlistment in aircrew, on the 10th March 1941.

Leading Aircraftsman Marshall was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Rotorua, on the 4th April, 1942, and was posted to Taieri on the 13th June for his elementary flying training. Here, this was terminated during July, and he was reposted to Rotorua on the 6th August. Early in October he embarked for Canada to train under the Empire Air Training Scheme.

Shortly after arrival in Canada he was posted on the 8th November, to No. 7 Air Observer School, Portage, La Prairie, Manitoba, for training as an air observer.

Leading Aircraftsman Marshall was a member of the crew of a an Anson aircraft which crashed at Birtle, Manitoba, on the 1st March 1943, during a training flight, Leading Aircraftsman Marshall losing his life. He was buried in the Hillside Cemetery, Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba, Canada.
