Red Cross that the aircraft had crashed, and he was reclassified as missing believed killed in action. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 13th October 1942. A post war casualty search revealed that Sergeant Parkinson was buried in the Brunsbuttelkoog Cemetery, Hamburg, Germany and that later he was re-interred in the British Military Cemetery, Kiel, Germany.

Other New Zealanders in the crew were Sergeant V. Watters of Whangarei, and Sergeant E.G. Firth of Wellington.
