Lakenheath, Suffolk, the nearby satellite aerodrome for Mildenhall. With this squadron, as navigator on Stirling aircraft, he carried out four operational flights.

On the night of the 28th/29th June, 1943, Sgt. Parton was navigator of a Stirling bomber which took off to attack the target of Cologne, in Germany. The aircraft failed to return to its base, and all the members of the crew, including Sgt. Parton were reported missing. Two other New Zealanders in the crew were Sgt. T.T. Tomoana, of Hastings, and F/O R.J. Peattie, of Wanganui. It was subsequently officially presumed that Sgt. Parsons had lost his life on the 29th June 1943.

A post war casualty report revealed that no subsequent information has been received concerning the aircraf tor any member of the crew.
