295Osnabruck, Frankfurt, Kassel, Nuremburg, and Karlsruhe, all in Germany. On the night of September 6th/7th Flight Sergeant Parkes was the Captain of a Wellington bomber which took off on (illegible) operational flight (redacted over enemy territory) Duisberg, and failed to return to its base. No further news was heard of the aircraft and all members of the crew, including Flight Sergeant Parkes were classified as missing. In due course the death of Flight Sergeant Parkes was officially presumed to have occurred on the 7th September 1942. Other New Zealanders in the crew were Sergeant H.V.G. Crawford of Auckland, Sergeant G.H. Rose of Wellington, Sergeant L.A. Groves of Dunedin, and Sergeant R.G. Wilson of Dunedin.
