299Stirling bomber on an operational flight, the target being Hamburg in Germany. Being posted to No. 75 (NZ) Squadron, Mepal, Cambridge on the 5th August, he continued his operational flying and took part in a further eight operations, bringing his total to nine. The Targets included NUREMBURG (2), Berlin, and Munchen Gladbach in Germany. Turin in Italy and three minelaying operations. From the attack on Munchen Gladbach on the night of the 30th/31st August, 1943, the aircraft piloted by Flight Sergeant Parkin, failed to return to its base, and all members of the crew were classified as missing. New received from the International Red Cross Committee quoting German information stated that Flight Sergeant Parkin had lost his life on 31st August, and subsequently he was reclassified to missing believed killed in action. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 31st August, 1943. He was buried at St. Trond, Belgium and after the cessation of hostilties was re-interred in the Louvain (Heverle) British Cemetery. Among members of the crew was one other New Zealander F/S T.
