Louisa County on August 16th 1862

My Dear Father

This beautiful evening finds me at Louisia Courthouse a distance from Richmond of 55 miles north of Richmond we have one only just halted at Louisia Courthouse to wait for the wagons and the Ballance of Auxillary Div ision wee will leave hear to night or tomorrow and go towards Gordonsville or at Gordonsville Wee understand that Jackson has taken up a March in pursuit of the Yankees so wee will be apt to follow on after him There is a larger ar my already at Jacksons command equal or more than was at Richmond.

Jackson Yeatts and Chim Watson and Green Walton are all well I sent by Quit [Crist?] Wooding $60.00 to go home you must send me word whether you have got it or not this is a beautiful country I am very much pleased with it so far as I have seen the water is good. I will close until wee go further I can not tell you now until my next letter where to direct your letter I will wright again as soon as wee take up station camp further in northern Va if I live and am not killed by the Yankees & I hope I wont be hurt I will add no more
