James Wyatt Whitehead (1838-1919) is son of Richard Whitehead Jr and Eliza Carolyn Brown. He is the cousin of Richard Whitehead. James married Nancy Eugenia Tredway, daughter of William Marshall Tredway. They had 20 children. When he moved to Chatham, James clerked in Jesse Hargrave's store. James, known to his friends as "Wyatt," enlisted as a private in Company I, 53rd Virginia Infantry.
