Court House

Chatham, VA. Often when JWG refers to 'CH,' short for 'court house' he is referring to Chatham VA, where the county court house was located. Of course, he often had business at the court house, but "went to CH" does not necessarily mean he went to the actual court house, but to the town. This is particularly true when he writes that his wife or another women went to CH, or "Mrs Hunt's Bob" when to CH, as neither women nor slaves would have business at the actual court house.
