1846 March 1st. Prayer meeting day at Strait Stone. M. H.- I did not go The Trees this day hanging with Icicles clear & cloudy a Dreadful day - real winter, In the evening it commenced Hailing, & continues on - in the night lost 3 Lambs, such a continuation of cold freezing I never saw in my life, wind blows from the East —

March 2 Monday. Hailed & the wind blew hard all night one of the most Disagreeable nights I ever saw or felt - this morning it stoped hailing & commenced snowing & the largest flakes of Snow ever seen by me, we are doing but little to day Rained & freezed Saturday Sunday & night Hailed Monday still snowing & the wind whistling Dreadful on stock of every description 1846 Real Hail & snow storm, snow & Hail where its drifting Two or 3 feet Deep weather stop falling about 12 oclock we have not seen the sun for about 4 days, wind blows very hard & cold from N. E. trees yet hanging with Icicles, not any thing done in our Garden

3rd March. Weather cleared off & Hail & snow melting smartly pretty morning over head under foot very bad —— making Baskets shelling corn spinning etc.

4 March Still winter weather finishing Baskets & then we are going to clean out stables, going to mill shucking corn

1846 March 4th, very pretty day over head Went this day with Mr. J D Hunt to see Mr Jesse Pitts waggon which I bot of Mr Hunt who takes the waggon from Pitts & let me have it complete for the sum of $41.50 with this understanding I pay Principal & Interest when convenient to me he Mr Hunt gives me several years to pay for it by paying Int

5th Beautiful day over head Phil cutting up Logs for fire wood alse & Henry halling out manure on Potatoe Patch Fed making 2 pr shoes for Lucy Ann children this day —

6. Thrashing out oats, Henry went after a Load of wheat straw to Mrs Hunts.

7. Went after waggon to Pitts, cutting up Trees on Branch fire wood - very pretty Weather over head Snow melted very much,

8. Snow nearly gone this second Sunday a beautifull day over Head —

9 Halling wood & Burning Log Heaps started 1 Hhd Lugs this day by Geo Bruce, he finds himself & I paying him ferrigage[ferriage] 4$ carriage 75¢ for fodder & he gets 4 Bushels corn in Lynchg at River which I have to Colo Smith to let

him Mr Bruce have the money,to pay forI have this day pd him for fodder 75 3/9 toll etc 9¢ of which he pays me back If he takes in another Hhd which he thinks of doing found Mr Bruce also 4 lb Bacon & 2 Gallons meal one Gallon meal to much —

10. Very pretty Day Halling out wood & burning Logs - made Rail body for Cart

11th Halling wood & Rails & Raking leaves in new ground, - Henry Plowing — my wife gone to Mrs Hunts—

12th Sent to Mill Malling on Branch for wood & Plowing for corn, raking & Pileing trash in new ground very pretty weather about this time Planted Irish Potatoe Patch & expect to cover it with leaves —

13 Rained nearly all night & this morning taking down our Tobacco that we have yet to strip, - weather moderate

14 Upsetting Corn field fence Henry Halling leaves to cover Irish Potato Patch very hard rain last night ground very wet Snow & hail all gone,

20th Plowing for corn Fed making Britching Fill Halling wood sewed Peas & Planted Onions Lila sewing oats this week Rolled Logs on Branch & sent 2 hands to Mrs Hunts square in Garden, —

21st Very pretty day Burnt & sewed sallet Bed - Balance Plowing & Halling wood.

1846 Feby 21 Weather moderate snow melts smartly striping Tobacco on Hhd Lug Tobacco ready to turn out

22nd Weather moderate snow melting very wet & sloppey mywife Complain[in]g about this time her Birth Day —

28 Saturday the past week we have made our new ground fence go to mill Hall wood Turn out one Lug Hhd Tobacco. the weather very cold, yesterday Friday we rolled our new ground Logs this day shelling corn gone to mill & cutting & malling up big pine beyond Turnip patch. Snowed last night about one Inch deep Thrashed out 1 stack oats this week 12 B Halled up one Do to feed with sold Selam to Pidlar & traded for goods $20 for him

1st day March 1846 yesterday it began to rain & we were mending shoes making Rakes etc This morning Friday 1st day of March Dreadfull weather Trees hanging with Ice some snow on ground. Thank God we are all on foot lost nearly half of our Lambs only got 14 now.

1846 April 1st. Plowing for corn 2 Plows alse & Mallisa began at 12 Oclock to Hill in new ground this we have been halling oat stacks out of new ground Phil Halling Rails along cross fence My wife gone to see Mrs. Coleman 2nd began to Hill in new ground 3 hands Lila & Henry Plowing for corn Phil Halling Rails around out side fence towards orchard & also along cross fence Jane in Garden Plowed up Tomato Beds Weather cloudy & very cool, like for snow or Rain, Sent Mr Crews Horse & Plow & Gear to toPlow to day & have also lent him a Horse to go to mill several times -

3rd A Beautiful morning Hilling colter in new ground & Plowing for corn. Henry hunting wild Hogs — Sewed Beets& salsafyyesterday

4 Another pretty morning Hilling in new ground Henry sewed flax Patch Lila Plowing in oats in bottom in Granary Lot Phil gone to shop with Plow Henry saw my my 11 wild hogs this morning but they were quite wild - have not ben up for 2 months — Sewed beets & salsafy a day or too ago. Planted corn & snaps in garden this day

5 Another pretty day like for rain or[friday?]

6th very pretty morning finished sewing oats Plowing for corn Coltering in new ground & Halling
