2nd May 1855 We have been hilling second yrs Land at stony pint Coltering at Johns branch & laying off Prized Two Hogh^d Lugs nearly done, all the Lugs - manured Plant Beds except on Mountain,= expect to finish at Stony pint to day –

4 Fine Rain, Sold T W anderson my Crop Tobacco made 1854 for $8½ Round; 2 Hd^ds Lugs prized & delr^d, the weights we are to be governed by in Rich^d, – Hilling on Johns Branch, Car^d 2 Hh^d Lugs to Riceville yesterday Fed sho[e] mending for Mary Hunt, taking down all our Second quality Tobacco this morning, Beding for Cotton etc etc

5 Bedding & Planting Cotton Irish Potatoe Patch by spring, Peas water mellons Pump kin Patch Cucumbers musmelons cucumber etc Hilling on Johns branch Beding on Branch for Tobacco quite Cool this night, uncovered our Plant Beds, etc ¬– Planted 2 squares Greens etc etc Halled up last stack Oats –

12- Finished Hilling on Friday & Began to Plow & weeding Corn done weeding & Plowing all the flat Land went to Lynchg past week Mr Fitzgerald done to Richm^d to see a Doctor on a/c of his situation

14 Plowing & weeding corn & replanting as as we go, very dry weather Corn & every thing comes up badly –

1855 May 15th. Plowing & weeding Corn, Sent 8 Bushels Corn to mill for meal Nannie gone to her Mamas Joshua Roach altered our Colt Fillmore about a week ago give one Dollar for it, Planted balance Pea Patch last Saturday, etc,

May 19 weeding Corn, yesterday Cut off our new ground Tobacco Hills manured Plant Bed at mountain, great light in South last night weather cloudy & like for rain, & misted a little last night to lay tho Dust – Fillmore yet Bad off from being Cut weather first warm & then cool

22 Plowing & weeding Corn this day manured Plant Beds Put leaves on Irish Potatoe Patch very dry yet chinch Bug eating up & Killing the wheat fly eating up Tobacco very serious time I think tho Prospects are gloomy & great excitement in Politics Last friday or saturday we Sent 8 Bushels grain for meal got 2 Bags Sent 8 Bus more this morning & get 2 other Bags there before leaving 8 Bushels there

23 Shower Rain last night & this morning we Planted 4 or 5000 Tobacco Hills on branch Plowing & weeding Corn left hand going ^field thro

26 Replanting Corn below malissas House Done weeding all but that flat Bushing Oats & wheat this & expect to finish tomorrow

27 weeding Cotton & Replanting working Out & Plowing Cotton Potatoes & Peas

1855 June 2 Planting Tobacco to day new& small p^s fresh ground at stony point Mr Crews & abram Planting fine Rain & season as ever I saw Just Plowed & worked out branch Second time before it Rained, fine weather now

4th Planted Johns’s Branch Tobacco to day & p^r of p^s next to orchard & p^r of Jacobs Beding Lot in evening of this day Sewed Peas on branch Just before Rain Planted Collard Plants & finished this day Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts, – got 2 Bags of meal last week & 2 more at Yates mill – worked over Cotton etc etc last week

June 6th Beded up & Hilled Lot, Thining Corn the 7th Henry yesterday Car^d my last Toba to Mr Anderson as we came back took in a Hh^d for Capt Fitzgerald & Henry has started for Lynchg this morning – Finne growing weather & every thing has improved very much in deed ¬

9. Finished Planting Tobacco yesterday Planted all day long in evening negroes Planted Mrs John S Lewis very like to die at this time,- fair this morning & Cool

13th Mrs Lewis Died the 11th June & buried 12th 1855 weeding down Tobacco Harrowing Corn Sent Jordan with 2 Bags Corn to mill 4 Bus. & to get 10 Bushels at mill

22 Cut wheat Straw yesterday all day where the chinch bug injured the wheat; Fed & little Henry working Cotton Hilling Sweet Potatoes weeding down, Tobacco began 20th to Lay by Corn & sewed Peas & Guano In fresh ground above House.

1855 June 23rd Finished Laying by Corn on Branch sew Peas there yesterday part of the hands weeding Tobacco weeding Peas, Some following Plows Laying by Corn, Laying by Corn & Sewing Guano right hand of Path by middle Barn & then the left expect to scatter Guano both sides of the Path before we lay it by Fed sho[e]making for me & Jacob – Tremendous hard Rain about night of this day washed very much Tobacco overflowed

25 Nannie went with Mrs Coleman home to day no rain at Mrs Hunts hardly, but as hard an one here & washed as much as I ever saw. Kate & Jerry went to Mr Fitz. geralds yesterday not returned yet we rep =lanted Tobacco yesterday shelled Corn etc

26 Sent Jordan with Hester to Faris & he carried 8 Bus Corn for meal & 2 Bags 4 Bus. to bring home besides making 12 Bushels in all Fencing this morning & then Cutting wheat Picking wool

30th June very Hot fair weather, Laying by Corn dewing Guano by middle barn in Chick Corn weeding down Lot Tobacco etc put Rye in House yesterday Plowing lot Tobacco etc. Plowed Tobacco on branch by House

July 2nd Halling up wheat Plowing Tobacco on branch & above House Swapt Logan to Mr Rob^t N. Lee for Jenny Lind got $40 Dollars to boot cloudy & like for Rain will get done halling up wheat except Lot at home by 12 Oclock to day
