1853 april 16 Cold Rain, we are striping Tobacco little Barn in fresh ground & then got the new ground Barn to strip yet

21st Nearly done Planting Corn except fresh ground on mountain & flats on branch Planted yesterday Snaps Rice & Simblings,- manured a good deal in the the Hill in John’s field beside the Guano Halling coltering in new ground this morning & this morning, Jerrys got the mumphs fine weather, Tobacco Plants yet small not done striping Toba yet places on Branch we are Beding mountain field for corn coltering in new ground & Hilling clear windy day flies eating Tobacco plants

23rd jacob Henry & Sandy Beding for corn fresh ground at mountain field & finished Rained this evening Coltering & Hilling in new ground - Jerry’s got well of the mumphs

24th Rained last night cloudy & like for Rain this morning no meeting day —

25 striping tobacco in new ground Barn

26 Finished striping Tobacco this day - prizing Lugs

27 Halling out manure waggon & Cart Fair fine weather Beding cotton this dayPatch & will not tell tomorrow or next day —

28th Halling out manure to day all hands

29 Planted cotton etc etc & then went to Hilling in new ground went to Mill 10 Bus. Corn for Meal 2½ Bus wheat for flour etc Sent Henry to mr Yate saw Mill with Large Log for Hhd staves, Cut marked & spayed Our Shoats to day

30 Planted mountain field corn & old meadow in Johns field finished coltering 1 way to day in new ground & Hilled Some, cloudy & like for Rain Jerrys has the measles ever since wednesday — Rose had a cow calf 29th fair day —

2nd Finished Sewing Oats On Branch this day Sewed 4 Bushels Sent Henry to Riceville for Doct Thompson for alse who got back from Mrs Hunts very sick sickly times Croping in new ground Hilling & Henry prizing Tobacco —

6 May- Finished Hilling newthis weekground got back from Lynchg Saturday sold Lugs for about $150 or little upwards Rained one night after I left for Lynchg

7 - done nothing after we got here

9th Took down nearly all of Our short Tobacco Fed sick. Cate got measles fine weather Sunday it rained,

10 Planed our Garden in Greens scattering manure & Plowing Lot & fresh ground Planed Irish Potatoes last Saturday

12 Plowing & Hilling in 3rd years ground Packing 2nd RateTobacco in Hhd Henry set up 3 Tobacco Hhds this day fine Rain day before yesterday - Coltering up 3rd yrs land for Tobacco, – clem & Cate Sick ever since Sunday last, & Clem monday Hilling at Second yrs ground & Plowing

13 Laying of secondyrs Land coltering in seconds yrs above House Replanting Corn this day etc etc put in stack fodder by stable in cutting house

14th Layed of 3rd yrs Land for Tobacco & Replanting corn in Johns’ field coltering in 2nd yrs Land

16 went to Court. Hollidy Clear pretty day

18. Hilling in 3rd yrs Land. Coltering in Second clear pretty weather, Jacob Cate had measles Clem & Jerrys only 2 cases of mumphs Jacob & Jerry

19. Finished planting corn & Peas this day before 12 Oclock & Replanted Corn — Federick gone to Millers Mill 8 Bus Corn Hilling in fresh ground windy & cool Began at 12 Oclock to Plow in Corn

22 went to Prayer meeting —

23 Plowing & Hilling second yrs Land

24 Planting Tobacco to day Do—— Do

25 Planted new ground & nearly done the 3rd yrs Tobacco Land, sent Jordanto Plant Tobacco for Plants to Kelly Jacob Cate clem & Jerry has had measles Jacob & Jerry the mumphs sallie Peggy and Several had the mumphs or a little swelled under the Jaw catharine S Catharine clem Jordan and Lowry

28 Plowed & weeding fresh ground at mountain yesterday & coltering 2nd yrs Land Plowing in corn field clear & cool till yesterday & warm to day Hilling to in 2nd yrs Tobacco Land & Plowing in Johns field replanted Cotton & Broom Corn wed Sweet Potatoes Day before yesterday Loaded waggon for Lynchg monday morning

30 waggon started to Lynchg this morning 1 Hhd Seconds adkinson to have it Sold, Hilling in 2nd yrs ground for Tobacco,

31st Finishing Hilling this morning in for Tobacco 2nd yrs Land cloudy & Likely for Rain, Cate sicklast night again
