1854 June 9th Very cool this morning weeding corn & Plowing at Stony pint etc etc Wed Out Cotton nearly, done

10 - Finished Plowing over corn Peas Cotton & Potatoes & also finished weeding Corn

11 Rained last night & to day again a fine Rain, replanting Tobacco, very much missing Lots 3rd yrs ground & new ground, fine weather took Down fine Tobacco, this season Tobacco plants very much dryed up in Beds tho I hope we have plenty yet —

12 Replanted Tobacco all day & did not quite get done,-

13 Picking Plant Beds gone to Mill 7 Bus Corn, & now prizing fine Tobacco put more Tobacco out to Sun this morning very Hot weather Seasonable, =Fanny White went home yesterday

22 Finished prizing Tobacco began to Cut wheat thined Corn Laying by on fresh field with Plows & Hoes chint Bugs Killing Corn next to wheat in Owens Clearing weeding down Tobacco in fresh ground 2 pretty showers yesterday & this morning we are choping up Lot Hills & cutting off Hills in fresh field Henry Started for Lynchg this morning 2 Hhd 1 second rate 1 good

23rd Cutting wheat & Rye Mr Harris’s Sam got here about 3 Oclock in evening

24, Cutting wheat,- nearly doneHenry Returned from Lynchg nearly 3 days gone –

28 Laying & finished mountain field Corn Haled up Lot wheat & Rye yesterday Sewed Peas this day in fresh ground

1854July 1st Weather very Hot & dry Fed gone to shop with Cart this evening Hilled up Sweet Potaotes this morning my Spungy made ½ machine sheet Laying by Corn in fresh ground choping etc etc in Corn & weeding down Tobacco — — —

8th Done Cutting Oats got up nearly all our wheat replanted Tobacco – went to Lynchg & sold all of our Tobacco, for tolerably prices only @$6Hoghd sold for $5.50, choped in Corn this week pulled up flax, Hilled up Cotton & Greens & Pens

12 finer Rains Since last Thursday Friday & Sunday worked out Lot Tobacco yesterday & now choping in Corn & thining nearly done laying by with ploughs, my wife went to Mr Fitzgeralds & carried Mrs Neal, etc etc Very clear this morning & at little cool

19. went to meeting last Sunday & from there Me & Kate went on to CH, my wife & children went to Mrs Hunts & returned at night, & Monday evening went up to Mr Fitzgeralds & Come back a little we came from CH, fine Rain Monday about chalk Level Monday evening, we are very dry Our Folks work 3rd yrs Tobacco & new ground this I Guanoed Lot, done over once

21 clearing of wheat yard to thrash wheat very dry & Hot, here fine shower above yesterday we stacked our Oats & got 4 or 5 Loads of Good Hay Henry Sick, Jordan Harrowing in Corn by fresh ground Barn

1854 July 21st Where the Chinch bug Killed the Corn, we planted over a few days ago. - Fine shower of Rain this evening at House hard Rain on mountain & great wind etc Blowed off pc of middle Barn roof

22 Hilling up Lot Tobacco by prizebarn

26 Sent to mill & had to go to Mr Pannills Rained Smartely Hilled up second yrs ground last time Plowing 3r yrs ground Sewed turnips in 3rd yrs ground

27. replanted a little Tobacco this morning Plowing & Hilling up 3rd yrs ground

Augt 7 wed little young Corn - Hilled up new ground Tobacco, raised Cutting House Shrubed & Piled up rocks in fresh ground owens clearing for Wheat. Shrubed this side of Branch for Corn to day we are Halling Logs to Yates Mill expect to Hall 8 there to day Toping & worming over Tobacco, - Sent to Yates Shop 4 H H 1 Colter 1 Frisen for old & had 1 shoe put on H. Clay that had not beenput on more than 4 days Sent to Yates to Mill nearly 1 Bbl corn — Mrs Hunt sent me 2½ Bus Corn to Yates mill, Sent Fed a Cow to Mrs Hunts for John Hunt, which I was to give him for a steer —

8 Very cool Henry & Mr Wyatt at work on Cutting House. Fed & Boys Toping Tobacco over Balance worming & succoring & Grubingfor Corn

9 at work on cutting House, & shrubing for corn, Jordan Plowing Lots Tobacco & Guanoed Lot - Sandy Cutting down shingles Tree, etc Very cool indeed this morning Sewing Turnip seed in Lot Tobacco

11 Finished new cutting House yesterday all But Steps that we have done this morn

1854 Friday 11th Rained a little last night & this morning it Thundered lightened & it rained more or less till 10 or 11 Oclock, ground wet, the prettiest rain we have had this Summer this evening after Dinner we went in the woods to Sawing & getting shingles - Mr Wyatt getting,- Sandy Cutting down another

12th Mr Wyatt getting shingles Fed & Henry sawing Sandy still Cutting shingles trees Jordan Plowing up Turnip Patch & going to Sew to day as soon as he gets ready

14 Rained Friday 11 & Saturday night finely, this morning we are fanning Out wheat Drying fruit worming Tobacco Plowing up Rye Lot etc Henry gone to E. G Lewis’s to Raise Barn — clear & Hot

15 Sent Fed to Farris Mill 12 Bus. wheat for flour, & got it all fine Rain this evening Henry getting Old shingles Balance gathered Queen apples & then went to work in Tobacco in corn field Mr Wyatt getting shingles in wood, Jordan & Sandy finished fallowing lot for Rye

16 Fed Toping Tobacco generally Henry getting shingles finished working Tobacco in Corn field working on Road this evening across mountain Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts — I went to Miss Sarah McCullocks Fallowing up stubble field owens clearingfor what

21 Augt went to Court. & to see old Bro Stone, who is very low Toping worming & succoring Tobacco

22 & finished that worming Do again Henry & Mr Wyatt getting shingles

23 Mr Wyatt went to Blanks to Raise Barn

24 - Harrowing in & Sewing Rye in lot By Granary, Sawing yesterday again

1854 augt 24th worming & succoring new ground & lot to day again, Cloudy & like for Rain

25th augt worming & succoring fresh ground, Sewed Rye in Lot Sandy Harrowing etc Henry getting shingles, Jordan gone to Yates mill etc clear & warm - my Sam left last Monday when I went to Court = 29 Just getting Shingles in woods towards fresh ground at Dinner time & F Wyatt Jointing & Henry to Halling up &

30 to rounding about 10 Oclock working little Tobacco in Corn field finished worming succoring & toping this morning over clear & fair = F. Wyatt Jointing all day this day & began yesterday evening —

Sept 5th Have been pulling fodder ever Since last week & worming Tobacco put nearly 8 stacks Blades nearly done pulling in fresh field Clear fine weather we are worming & succoring Tobacco over now began yesterday, Henry commences getting Shingles opposite Crews to day at 12 Oclock =

Sept 9th Rained to day a days pulling fodder on ground went to Ezekiel Dews yesterday, worming & succoring Tobacco in 3rd years ground & in my Lot —

11 Tying up Fodder & worming Tobacco & gathering Peas -

12 Put Top on new Barn, = 23 Finished Pulling fodder Cutting Tops & Stacking fodder, & worming & succoring over over Tobacco & have cut about 2300 stacks & Housed old prizing Barn full, pretty weather Sunday started at Strait Stone about this time
