1857 April 17th Plowing for corn Coltering in
new ground Hilling & coltering Second years
ground, & trying to finish Hilling that this week
very Cool weather this week, have not
finished planted Our Sweet Potatoes -

18th Rained all night last night & to day nearly
all day very cold Rain, indeed, Jerry carried
Sallie up to Fannies yesterday - & we are
to day opening Our Second rate Tobacco
shelling corn etc etc - covering Irish Potatoe
Patch this evening with old Straw
Lent Bro. Mason Sam Slick a Book
belonging to Bro. John D Hunt

19th Rained all day nearly went to Sunday
school nobody there Kate come down nightlast

20 Went to Court wind blew very hard & the
weather very cool all day got back same
night. Our Poeple cutting in new ground
& finished cutting house Logs Piling Logs heaps
wood & Brush till 12 Oclock then to Plowing
& Hilling & Jordan coltering croping,
after morning a little,

21st Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts Jerry gone to
School Hilling Plowing for Corn & Croping
new ground cloudy & like for rain or
snow very cool indeed for the season
Finished Hilling second years ground & began
to Hill at new to day Plowing at mountain
for corn, very cool this evening

22nd Plowing for corn at mountain coltering
Hilling at new ground, Halled out Rails
this morning & wood — cloudy & like for
falling weather cool & windy

23rd Finished Plowing for Corn began to Plow
at Stoney pint yellow corn in Tobacco land
Hilling & coltering at new ground
