Fowler's solution contains 1% potassium arsenite, once prescribed as a remedy or tonic.

I can't make out the word in entry of 24th that looks like "messing" or "miping," depending on whether the p-looking letter is double-s, which was typical. Apparently it is a crop used to feed hogs?

Ben W. Brumfield

Is there any chance this could be "mixing", and the word abovehand you've transcribed as "will" is actually "mix"? I'd want to find another example of JWG's "x" before making such a change, as I'm really uncertain.

I'm 99.9% sure that "will" is not "mix." Compare the "m" in "mountain" right above it. Also see the other instances of "will" in this page. His "m" is slightly more rounded. A great example is last line in 24th entry: "which makes." The "x" is quite a different looking letter. Imagine writing a reversed "c" followed by a regular "c" and they touch at the middle. See June 25: "expect"
