1871 Sept 27 Began to Cut Tobacco to day & Cutting
in New ground & Cut & Hung about 700 Sticks
Put at 3 Cart loads of mine in new prize barn
Hiram Wyatt & Wm Bailess Succored Tobacco fromtill
12 Oclock tillnight for me & Martin
28 Hired Edmond Tucker Tom Lain & his 2 Daughters
Alice & Bettie Silvey & Parthena & paid them
for me & Martin Clear night last night
as Sorry days work for the hands as I ever had
Its quite Cool this morning & clear
29 Cutting & Hanging & Hauling & Placing in
Barn, got new prize Barn full placing
in old prize Barn 30th Soon [Iveson] is going
to Cure new prize Barn begins this morning
30th going to Cut Big Lot to day & done it
& filled old prize Barn & put some in boxes
back of Garden Some frost this morning
none to Bite much Parthena Hung Tobacco
3 days this week & I paid her weather weather more
moderate this night wind from South
Oct 1st Stayedsmart frost Saturday at home all day Sunday
2nd Fixed & Cleaned out old prize Barn
Carried some there to Barn back of Garden
then wormed & Succored Tobacco till night
Cloudy & like for Rain this evening
Scye Marshall hire to day
3. finished worming & Succoring Tobacco, Martin
Put out & went to Mill & took his Corn On his back
because I did not hunt up him & let him
know it when we have been talking about
it for 4 days & did send that morning
4 fixing Bars etc till 12 oclock then went
to Cutting Tobacco winding up in fresh ground
& new ground Doron Curing old prize barn
beganSam went after his meal & my flour– Tuesday 12 Oclock the 3rd & expects to
finish this the 5th Oct 1871
