A good day. Ben fixed heater in the dineing room. Henry went to Lee Brumfield's a little while tonight. He said he was going to Strait Stone. Edna and Mabel has the chicken pox. The baby has bin cross all day. I have bin most sick all day. Lelia come and washed dishes this morning. I made out to get dinner. Mr. Sam Owen come here this evening. Wanted Ben to go and see if he could do any thing for his car. Ben has not come back yet. Hope he can fix the car so he can run it. We miss Jim very much.

A beautiful day. Ben went to Gretna with tobacco. He staid about all day. We thought Jim would come home with him but he did not. I hope that there has not any thing happened to him. The had has bin a long one to me. Mabel and I here by our selves. She is broke out with chicken pox. Did not rest good last night. I do hope that she may sleep tonight. I had a card from Floyed and a letter from Alma. I am always glad to hear form any of them. Ben had his teeth worked on today. They are giving him trouble to night.

A fine day. The boys shucked corn the most of they day. Hauled up one load. Oscar Brumfield com to see Ben a bout sawing their wood. Lee come for the saw. The horses got to the corn pile and eat a lot. I hope it won't hurt them. The children went to school. They had a game played against the Gretna boys. Renan beat. I got a new year book today from Lynchburg. Will and Effie sent it. It is very nice. I got a card from Ervin Harvey and Mrs. Kent. I am glad to be remembered.

Thursday, December 20, 1923

A rainy morning. The men folks did not do any thing of any account until evening. They picked up some corn and put it in sacks. The children went to school. There is a play over there tonight. Ben and the children has gone all but Mabel. She is a bed and a sleep. Edna eat supper at John Hutcherson's tonight. [E]Ula Mayhew and Gladis Owen was there two. I wrote to Kate Harvey. Wrote part of one to Carrie Smith. Nat passed so early that I did not get it in the mail. Jim sent a box of turnip greens to Ruben's today.
