Dear Mother:

Well at least I have some news for a letter. Quite a bit too, compared with my usual letters. First and most important, I had a visit from John Murphy on Wednesday and today I went to see him. We had a great time just talking over old time. In case you don't remember the name he lives on 46th St. near 6th Ave. It was sure good to see some one from home. The last person I had seen out here was Sager in Feb. '44 in Pearl Harbor. John looked swell, tell Popkin(?) when you see him that we met.

Recieved [sic] two birthday packages from you today One candy and one cookies and candy. The cookies were all smashed but the candy came through pretty well. Also had a box of cookies from

May Murphy two days ago. Please thank her when you see her again. Would not advise you to send any more candy or food until I write for it. Sometimes it travels around for months before I get it and by that time it is not worth getting. Speaking of pacakges I have not gotten the writing paper as yet.

So glad Marian drop [sic] in to see you. Glad so(?) one likes her new hair do, I don't think I'll care for it. What did you talk about? Did she say how long she would be down in Maryland. She was not sure when she wrote me last. She did say she expected to get a leave when she was finished there. Speaking of leaves, when do you expect to go on your vacation. Please let me know.

Now for a bit of unpleasant talk. So Malcolm is afraid

Maybe he thinks some of us should stay out here for ever just so "Dear sweet little him" can stay home safe and sound in the States. Of course he has only been there for at least two years. I've met fellows out here who haven't been home in three years and they are not crying. I guess I'll put him down in my book of "people I'd prefer not to see after the war." Murphy and I were just discussing his type today. And we really were boiling by the time we got through. If it is all the same to you I'd rather not hear anymore about him or his kind.

Wellt hat is enough of that. Sorry to hear Al and Pop are not in the best of health. I guess it is just old age creeping up on Al. Tell Pop to be a

good boy and take life easy. You do the same. I am fine and feel quite rested. Have not felt better in months.

Well I have filled a lot of space tonight. But I'll have to close now. Will try to write again in a few days. Give my best to all.

Your loving son Georgie
