buying stock pretty early. People had it to
offer full paid stock, and I bought
some as low as ten (10) cents on the dollar of
full paid stock: and I generally bought it
for 40 "or"[crossed out] 50 [written above]or 60 cents: and I don't think I ever
paid par for any until after the suit
was commenced by Samuel Brannan against
myself and others, and then I think I paid
par for some. But what I bought was more as
an accomodation to men who had put
their money in the Railroad and wanted
to sell their stock.

Q 39 Have you any knowledge of any purchases
of stock at about the same time made by
either Charles Crocker or Mr. Hopkins?

A. I cannot call to mind the purchase of any
particular stock by either of them; but I have still a
general knowledge that they occasionally bought
stock.

Q 40 Have you any knowledge as to the prices
paid by them?

A. Well I dont[don't] think that either of them paid
par: I dont[don't] think that they bought as well
of the stock as I did.
