road to the State line. The Company
was organized to construct the
road from Sacramento to the
State line. The law of our State
prevented a mortgage being given
to a greater amount than the Capital
Stock. There was a law passed
by the Legislature of the State au=
thorizing an increase of the Capital
stock of the Corporation to, I think,
twenty million dollars, perhaps
more, I am not certain; but an
increase at any rate; and au=
thorizing a mortgage for an equal
amount. After that it was in=
creased to one hundred millions
by an amendment to the articles
of incorporation.
