A. [After examination:] It was paid [caret]"for" as
follows: January 31, 1863, cash, $5000; July
6, 1863, Credit for account of service, $6,000;
September 5, 1864, Credit for account of
services [caret]"or salary" $10,000; November 26, 1864, Cash,
$27,500; December 23, 1865, services, $1500:
making the full payment of $50,000. The
certificate was issued June 21, 1870.

Q. 423 What was the nature of the services
rendered?

A. The credits for account of services
were for his regular salary as an officer
of the Company.
