A. That was the Contract and Finance Company.

Q. 563 From whom did you obtain the items
from which you made this report?

A. From Leland Stanford.

Q. 564 Why were these suns charged to
the Contract and Finance Company by you?

A. Because Leland Stanford said
he had paid them out for its account.

Q. 565 What became of the difference
between the amount shown on this
report as having been received — $53,880.07
— and the amount expened — $23,758.46?

A. It was left standing on the books
of the Central Pacific Railroad Com=
=pany of California to the credit of the
Contract and Finance Company.
