by that Company from the Central
Pacific Railroad Company of California?

A. I don't remember as to that.

Q. 408 How many miles of road did the
Contract and Finance Company build?

A. I think it is somewhere between
five and six hundred miles from
the state line to Promontory.

Q. 409 Can you state where you obtained
any portion of that iron, from your own
recollection?

A. I have already stated where the iron
came from. It was bought at various
works in the East and shipped by the
proprietors of those works, and transferred
from the vessels that brought it to
