A. I may have enclosed a note in a
letter, just as I did in the letter to you;
but the negotiation was a previous matter.

A. Made by some one else — with you.

A. I don't know.
Q. 637 Will you go on and state, if you please,
what entry was made upon the books
of the Contract and Finance Company on
the payment of any notes made by these
persons and paid by the Contract and
Finance Company?
A. Any notes made by the members
of the Contract and Finance Company were
treated as notes made by the corporation.
Q. 638 When did the persons I have been
speaking of — Leland Stanford, C. P. Hunting=
=ton, Mark Hopkins and Charles Crocker —
become members of the Contract and
Finance Company?
A. I think sometime within a few months
after its incorporation. I cannot give the date.

A. I think they did.
