Q. 740 Did you draw from or receive from the
treasurer or assistant treasurer, or any
officer, of the Central Pacific Railroad
Company or of the Western Pacific Railroad
Company payment in anything else than
coin for the work done or material sup=

A. No.

Q. 741 Was there any profit made by the
Contract and Finance Company on the
contract which they took from the
Central Pacific Railroad Company of Cali=
=fornia for building and equipping the
five hundred miles of road?

A. Well, I do not know. We commenced
on other contracts fefore[before] that was com=
=pleted; and what the profits were on
one, or whether there was loss on any
one, I could not state. We had several
contracts at the same time.

and Western Pacific that you have
mentioned, did the Contract and Finance
Company undertake to build and equip?

A. As I stated this morning, we were
building the San Joaquin Valley Railroad.
