Nothing gives me more pleasure than to
receive a letter from home, there are many
kind frends [friends] and familiar scenes that posess [possess]
an untold and indescribable interest to me
But here with me it seems the case is
very different I am as it were alone
The people and scenes that surround me
are strangers to you and to repeat to
you at each mail the unoriginal tale
of bad luck or to speculate on hopefull [hopeful]
prospects seems to me is as Billy Shakespere [William Shakespeare]
says "as tedious as a thrice told tale" I do
not know as you think with me in this another
item there is many of you to write and for me
me to answer each letter seperate [separate] and make
the whole interesting would be a task beyond
my capacity I intend to keep you posted
often of my whereabouts welfare &c [etc.] and by no
manner of means would I wish (as you intimated)
that the correspondence between us should die
out I should look upon such an event as the severing
the last tie to love or friendship and I trust this
may never be Some of my letters must have
evidently been miscarried as there has never
been a time but I have written as often as
once a month I am still at work in
the old claim It has not been paying very
well of late although we hope it may soon
