The president announced the demise of Mr. H. Sternfels, a member of this congregation who died this morning, and the funeral will take place Wednesday, December 1th, at 2 1/2 o'clock P.M.

The following bills was allowed: M. Wilson, for collecting $25.00 N. Mohns, taking care of cemetery 15.00 G. Ross, cleaning and repairing silverware 15.00 T.D. Scriver [Note], Hack hire 1.50 S. Morris, telegram dispatches 2.35 G. Haines, exchange on silver 1.95 L.L. Lewis, stove fixing 2.30 A. Kaiser, Zimrat Yah, 3 volumes 15.00 Expressage on the same 2.45 Journal office printing 1.50 --------------- Total $ 82.05

There appearing no further business the meeting adjourned.

A regular monthly meeting of the board of officers was held at Judges Haines office at 10 1/2 o'clock A.M.

Mr. L Elkus, president in the chair. There being no quorum present the meeting adjourned until January 2st, 1881.

Sacramento, January 2th, 1881

An adjourned meeting of the board of officers was held at Judge Haines office at 10 1/2 o'clock A.M.

Mr. L. Elkus president in the chair. All officers was noted present except Mr. Hamburger, Weinstock, and Lubin.

The minutes of last meeting was read and approved.

Application of Mr. Isidor Levison of Rocklin to become a member was read and on motion the application was received and Mr. Levison a member of this congregation.

The resignation of Mr. G.S. Nathan was read and on motion accepted. Also the resignation of Mr. Albert Elkus was read and on motion accepted.

The committee on donation made partial report and asked further time, and on motion further time was granted.

The following bills was allowed. M. Wilson for collecting $25.00 N. Mohns taking care of cemetery 15.00 W.J. Rand Organist 15.00 S. Morris advertising and 8 blank music books 4.75 County taxes 59.40 Wilson and Mitchell [Note 1] 2 carriages 8.00 Rev Dr. J. Bloch 1 Bible 8.75 ------------------ Total $125.90 [Note 2]

There being no further business the meeting adjourned.

Sacramento, January 5th, 1881

A special meeting of the board of officers was held at Judge Haines office at 7 1/2 o'clock P.M.

Mr. L Elkus, president in the chair. All officers was noted present except Mr. Hamburger and Weinstock.

The president stated this meeting was called at request of Rev. J. Bloch to consult in regard in conducting the service in the synagogue and about the religious instruction.

On motion the service in synagogue shall be in accordance with Minhag America.

On motion of Mr. Lubin the secretary be authorized to get blanks printed and 2 record books for the Sabbath school.

On motion the meeting adjourned.

Board to reduced to one dollar per month was received, placed on file, and the request was rejected. The Secretary was instructed to Mr. Coney of the same.

The following gentlemen made application to become members of the congregation: Mr. Ab. Mooser O. Ross A. Elkus and on motion the application was received and the above gentlemen were elected members of the congregation.

Mr. H. Marks was also elected a member of the congregation from December 1th, 1880.

The President stated that Mr. Rand the organist has left the city for good and has engage Mr. Fleissner as organist at $20.00 per month subject to the approval of the Board.

On motion of Mr. Haines, the action of the President be ratified in regard to the engagement of Mr. Fleissner. Carried.

The President stated that an alto singer is very much needed in choir and it is impossible to get one except Miss Wood and he thinks he get that lady from $5.00 to $7.50 per month.

On motion the President was authorized to engage Miss Wood not to exceed $7.50 per month until we can get a volunteer alto. Carried.

A communication was read from Dr. Bloch in regard to have rules and regulations printed and put it in conspicuous places, also to have a school room for the children

and a dressing room for himself. On motion the communication be received and placed on file. Carried.

A second communication was read from Dr. Bloch asking permission to have a exhibition consisting of tables on Purim night, also to have a better choir. On motion the communication was received and placed on file. On motion in regard to the Purim entertainment the request of Dr. Bloch granted.

On motion the committee on choir in conjunction with Dr. Bloch be authorized to get up as good a choir as possible. Carried.

On motion of Mr. Haines a committee of 2 be appointed in conjunction with Dr. Bloch to draft suitable rules and regulations for the Congregation. Carried. The President appointed Mr. Robertscheck and Mr. Phillips. On motion, in regard the school room and dressing room be laid over for further time.

Judge Haines presented to the Congregation a clock to be placed in the synagogue. On motion a vote of thanks be tendered to Judge Haines for this valuable present. Carried.

On motion the Vice President be authorized to have the clock placed in the synagogue and bolts fix at the middle door. Carried.

Mrs. Johanna Marks presented 2 robes for Sefer Torahs. On motion the same be accepted and a committee of 2 be appointed in conjunction with the President to draft suitable resolution and have the same expressed and presented to Mrs. Marks. Carried.
