Sat Jan 16 Cloudy and rather cool. 25° early this morning and kept cool all day. The boys hauled a couple of loads for the sheep and one and put it in the barn loft. I sat around sort of chilly most all day but just at night I fixed up 3 sheep troughs. It began to snow here about sun down etc.

Sun Jan 17 We found some 5 or 6 inches of snow on the ground but it has not snowed much through the day but it has been cloudy and pretty cold. We done the chores and that was all except the boys hauled some hay for the cattle up at windy hill. Just at night a man came along and wanted to get work. We gave him his supper and I think he will stay over night.

1892 Mon Jan 18 Pretty cold again this morning 14° and it has kept pretty cold all day but still and mostly clear. The stranger staid [stayed] all night and helped at one thing and another. To day they have got the trough to feed the sheep in mostly placed and nearly ready to commence feeding. I tried to keep warm and made out pretty well.

Tues Jan 19 Quite sharp this morning but got quite comfortable. After a while the stranger staid [stayed] all day and sawed wood. Lew and Alex fixed up the feed troughs for the sheep and we have fed them twice to day of corn and bran. Mother and Lew have gone to Mrs Dr Millers funeral was held to day at 2 O clock. I helped at things a while to day but only part of the day.

Fri Jan 22 Real nice only the wind has been pretty raw especially this afternoon. Alex went to town after a load of corn but the car was gone corn and all so we couldnt get any corn and he got a load of coal. Lew and Alex hauled a load of hay for the sheep this afternoon. I made a box to hold corn in the sheep correll [corral] and it took about al [all] day.

Sat Jan 23 Very nice to day and thawed quite a bit. The Courier of Thurs gives wonderful stories of the richness of the Manhattan mines and they are going to have mills there right away. I wish they would but I think it a little blowish. Lew and Alex hauled a couple of loads of corn and done the other chores mostly. I worked around most of the day.

Sun Jan 24 Real nice day and thawed quite a bit. We all kept Sunday about home but Alex and he went to Mr McNeels to help them keep it. Mother went with me up to windy hill to night when I went to feed she didnt think that the cattle are fattening fast enough to hurt them.

Mon Jan 25 Nice and warm to day. The boys hauled hay for the sheep and cattle. Dave came down to day. He says that things are flourishing up at Spring Canion [Canyon] ranch. I worked at cleaning manure out of the sheep carrell [corral] and got out lots of it too.
