Fri MAY 10 A night and day long to be remembered. It began to rain last night and rained and snowed until quite a spell afternoon to day and got the ground pretty thoroughly wet. The boys Lew and Will have not got home yet. I done the chores with Lills and Mothers help and made a couple of milking stools and that was enough for me wasnt it.

MAY 11. Sat Cloudy and still but didnt storm. Lew and Will got home this afternoon guess they got along pretty well what time they had to work. I irrigated a little on the timber claim and couldnt make very satisfactory work there so I came down and turned the water onto the piece of alfalfa East of the lake. No water on the timber claim.

Water no go Sun MAY 12. A little frost this morning killing probably about half of the strawberries but not hurting anything else that I can see. The day has been fine though. Mr and Mrs Birdsall were here and Mr Hoag and Mr Thomas and Mr Meece. I tried to irrigate a little but the water was out again. I dont know what a fellow can do with such foolishness about water.

MAY 13. Mon Very nice to day and getting quite warm. We hauled down the ballance [balance] the hay from windy hill and plowed a little patch west of the house and branded and castrated the calves that needed it and Mother and I went to town and done some trading and I got some 600 dollars from Jery Beach to pay the Caseys.

Tues MAY 14. To day couldnt be improved twas still clear and warm and evrything [everything] grew nicely. The boys got started for the hills this morning. Lew took the buggy and Will the wagon. I put in my time planting punkin [pumpkin] seeds mostly up on the windy hill place South and West of the lake.

MAY 15. Wed Threatened to rain all day but didnt make out to do it and tonight it looks pretty ominous. I finished planting the punkins [pumpkins] and squashes up at windy hill and done quite a lot of irrigating. I suppose that Will and Lew finished the corn and planted the potatoes up at the hill ranch to day. Mr [Shaerem?] and two other men fished the afternoon in windy hill pond with rather poor success.
