Rather a cold dull day. Lew raked and shocked all day. Dave went to town [and] brought out Doc Rose and he castrated Beauty. He allso [also] brought out Mr D M Lewis who expects to go out on a hunt with Dave and Gore and Harry. I husked corn in the forenoon and shocked hay in the afternoon.

Thurs Oct 9
Found about 2 ½ inches of soft damp snow which was nearly all gone at night allthough it was thick cloudy all day. Lew and Lewis went to Rough and Ready ranch to see how things look and to bring down some cows. Dave scrafed [scraped] the snow off from the hay schocks and attended to the chores. I didnt do much of anything but I hafe [have] to do better some time.
