We got news from Meda to day [today]. She got to
Chicago all right [alright] on time but when she
can get away from there is another thing.

Wed July 4. It rained some here 3 or four
times to day [today] and they had a large rain up
on the head waters of dry creeek. Mr. Lane raised
the Long pond gate for a couple of hours
and shut them down again about sundown.
The men went to Collins and celebrated
and to night [tonight] they have gone again. That
is George and John has gone to night [tonight]
and Gray has gone to bed in the barn.
Franks folks were here to day [today] only Frank
went to town some of the day. I wrote 3 letters
to day [today] one to D A Black one to D G Laing
and one to A M Corbit. To night [tonight] I have a
little water running on to one of the little
pieces of oats up East of the 10 acre piece.

Thurs July 5 Threatening some of the
time to day [today[ and pretty warm generally. We fixed
the bridge above the house this morning and
worked at hay. Trying to get it dry the most
part of the time and if it dont rain we can
haul some tomorrow.

Fri July 6 Pretty good day but scolded
and threatened some. We ground the ledger plates
and sickles in the forenoon and hauled and stacked
4 loads this afternoon. I fixed the ditch ready
to water the oats and hope I will get some
tomorrow.
