To His Excellency Gov. B. G. Humphreys

Sir

Having understood that there is a fund in your hands from the Ladies of Baltimore for the relief of the Confederate Soldiers Widows of this State I would therefore respectfully unto your Honor Excellency that James M Brooks And John P. Whitehead belonged to the 28th and 35th Miss Regiments and they both made good Soldiers and that Whitehead died from the Effects of wounds recd in the army, and Brooks died at Grenada ^in^ at the Hospital and that they have both left helpless families Whitehead a wife and four children and Brooks a wife and three children the children of both are too small to help their mothers to support them, I would therefore reccommend them to your Excellency's favorable Consideration in the distribution of the above mentioned fund

Your Obt Servt
