Canton Miss. Aug. 1st. 1866—
Hon. B. G. Humphries;
Jackson Miss;
Governor;
Yours of date yesterday was recd. this morning. The existence of the organization you allude to was ascertained at the last term of our Circuit Court. March/66— It is certainly most desirable that the outlaws should be arrested & brought to justice.
If parties complaining will furnish tangible matter against any officer of the law, I shall, of course, promptly institute & prosecute proceedings against the person shown to be in default.
Most respectfully your servant—
S. S. Calhoun
Dist. Atty. 5th. J.D. Miss.
