Page 1Greenville Miss July 24th" 1866. Hon. Benj. G. Humphreys Dr Sir: I have just signed a petition to you for the purpose of having a young friend of mine pardoned from the sentence of imprisonment just past on him by the County Court of this County. I did not witness the trial and can not therefore say anything with reference to the merits of the case, but with reference to the young man himself I will say that he is a member of one of our oldest and best families, the Son of WM. H. Lee, of this County, and should you think ^fit^ to extend to him the Executive Clemency, I am free to say that I think it would be worthily bestowed, and very gratifying to many of your friends in this section, who, for want of time Very Respectfully Your obt.
