Greenville Miss July 24th" 1866.

Hon. Benj. G. Humphreys
Governor of the State
of Mississippi

Dr Sir:

I have just signed a petition to you for the purpose of having a young friend of mine pardoned from the sentence of imprisonment just past on him by the County Court of this County. I did not witness the trial and can not therefore say anything with reference to the merits of the case, but with reference to the young man himself I will say that he is a member of one of our oldest and best families, the Son of WM. H. Lee, of this County, and should you think ^fit^ to extend to him the Executive Clemency, I am free to say that I think it would be worthily bestowed, and very gratifying to many of your friends in this section, who, for want of time have to see them, have not signed this petition.

Very Respectfully Your obt. Svt.
