ADELBERT AMES, ^J. M. Stone^ Governor of the State of Mississippi, To the Sheriff of Monroe County, Or to the Sheriff of any other County—GREETING:

Whereas, His Excellency the Governor of the State of Alabama has made known to me that L. Winters alias M. Winters stands charged with having committed the crime of allowing ^a^ minor to bet at gaming table (as set forth in the annexed copy of an affidavit ^indictment^ which is hereby certified to be authentic,) in the State of Alabama on the — day of — 18—;

AND, WHEREAS, It appears that said L. Winters alias M. Winters has fled from justice, and is to be found in the State of Mississippi, where he has taken refuge;

AND WHEREAS, the Governor aforesaid, has demanded of me the arrest and delivery of said L. Winters alias M. Winters to J. W. Martin whom he has appointed agent to receive and convey said L. Winter alias M. Winters to the jurisdictional limits within which he stands charged.

Now, Therefore, I, ADELBERT AMES, ^J. M. Stone^ Governor of the State of Mississippi, do, by virtue of the power vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of this State, direct and require you to arrest the said L. Winters alias M. Winters and deliver him to the custody of the said J. W. Martin the agent appointed by the Governor of Alabama to the end that he may be conveyed to the jurisdictional limits where he stands charged.

The State of Alabama—Macon Co. CIRCUIT COURT Spring TERM, 1875

The Grand Jury of said County charge that before the finding of this Indictment, that

L Winter alias M Winters otherwise unknown to the Grand Jury being of full age, did allow Clarance Abercrombie a minor to bet or hazard ten cents at a gameing table kept or exhibited by him or in which he was interested or concerned.

The Grand Jury of said County further charge that before the finding of this indict-ment that L Winters alias Max Winters being of full age did allow Clarance Abercrombie, a minor, to bet or hazard money to the value of ten cents, at a gameing table kept or exhibited by him or in which he was interested or con-cerned

against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama.

The State of Alabama.


To his Excellency, the Governor of Mississippi.

The undersigned, Governor of the State of Alabama, would inform your Excellency that L. Winters alias M. Winters charged with the crime of "Allowing minor to bet at Gaming table" as will more fully appear by the papers hereunto annexed, which I certify to be authentic, is a fugitive from the justice of this State, and is now supposed to be within the limits of the State of Mississippi

Your Excellency is Therefore requested, in conformity to the Constitu-tion, and a Law of the United States, to cause the said L. Winters alias M. Winters to be delivered to J. W Martin who is appointed AGENT to receive him; that he may be brought into this State, and dealt with as to law and justice may appertain.

In Testimony Whereof, I have caused the Seal of this State to be hereunto affixed, at Mont-gomery, this 18th day of Apri in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Six, and in the one Hundredth Year of the In-dependence of the United States of America.
