weather looked bad so decided to put it
off until tomorrow (which means today). "Procras-
tination is the thief of time" for today, until late this
afternoon it blew hard from the East, then turned
cold & clear. The sea is covered with young ice
and unless a breeze arises I don't see how we
will get thru it & the ice with the dory. Cold,
clear with variable light airs.

Snowing and blowing a strong breeze from the E.
The ground is all white and some snow drifts
are 3 feet deep. No attempt to move today.

A nice day. All hands proceeded to location of
future winter house and erected ridge-pole and
split and carried raw nails for the walls. Also
piled wood. In front of the present camp the
sea is cow covered with young ice for 300 yds
West and from there is far W. as we can see there
is no young ice. The ice in front of camp, however
makes it impossible to use the dory for mov-
ing so will have to wait for more snow and
use the sled. Saw several hundred female Eiders
the first ducks of this species we have seen for
a month. Great numbers of Old Squaw ducks
along the beach. Saw two xx two terns, num-
erous sea gulls and ravens. Fresh freeze
from the East (10 P.M) Foggy and cold.
